What do Americans trust more than Wall Street?
Their own front door.
For 14 years straight, Gallup has asked Americans to name the best long-term investment — and real estate continues to come out on top, ahead of stocks, gold, and bonds.
That kind of consistency says a lot about how Americans view homeownership as a way to build long-term wealth and financial security.
Here’s Why Real Estate Continues to Stand Out
Home values continue to build wealth
Home prices are still rising nationally, although at a more moderate pace than we saw a few years ago. While some local markets have experienced small declines or periods of slower growth, those changes are relatively modest compared with the gains many homeowners have seen over the past five years.
Confidence in buying is growing
Buyers are feeling more positive about homeownership, too.
Bank of America’s latest Homebuyer Insights Report found that 53% of people now say buying is preferable to renting or living with family, marking the first time buying has led since 2023.
Even more telling, 90% say a home is a valuable investment, up from 79% last year. And 94% say homeownership provides stability, up from 83%.
Those numbers highlight something important: people aren't just thinking about what a home is worth today. They're thinking about what owning a home can provide over the long term.
It’s About More Than the Numbers
Of course, real estate isn't only about appreciation or investment returns.
A home is where you put down roots, build a life, create memories, and establish a sense of stability. It's an asset you can live in and enjoy while potentially building equity over time.
That's something a stock portfolio simply can't provide.
If you've been thinking about buying, selling, or simply want to understand what your home could be worth in today's market, we're here to help you make an informed decision.
